Mr. Clair N. Rehrig

September 23, 1929 ~ January 10, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old


Mr. Clair N. Rehrig, 87, of Lehigh Township, formerly of Ashfield, Pa. passed away, Tuesday, January 10th at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg Campus. He was the husband of Eva Jane (Rehrig) Rehrig. They were married for 65 years last August 11th, 2016. Born in East Penn Township, Pa. , he was a son of the late Calvin & Hattie (Nothstein) Rehrig. He served our country with the US Army during the Korean War with the 725th Ord. Unit supporting the MASH( Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) unit serving the 38th parallel. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an automobile mechanic for Fisher Motors Pontiac with over 40 years of service. He was a member of Dinkey Memorial Lutheran Church, Ashfield where he served on the church council and held the position of Council President. Clair also served as chairman of The Dinkey Cemetery Board, and served on the Dinkey property committee. He was a member of Lehighton Lodge #621 F & AM and held a  32 degree membership at Lehigh Consistory, Valley of Allentown. A very active community leader, he took the call to serve his neighbors in need very seriously. He was a member of East Penn Township Volunteer Fire Co. for 24 years where he served as President for 14 years, Assistant Chief for 8 years, &  Chief for 5 years. He  was an East Penn Township Supervisor &  volunteered his time as a Boy Scout Leader, Troop 82, Andreas, Pa. Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 daughters, Ruth N. wife of Reverend Jerry Arndt of Reading, Faye E. Ruch & her fiancé Chip Vonsteuben of Nazareth, a son Richard C. “Dick” Rehrig & his wife Sandy of Lehigh Township, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 10 nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Ellen Youse, Ruth Knepper, & 2 brothers, Mark & Dale Rehrig. A Celebration of Life Service In his honor will be held on Sat. Jan. 14th at 11 a.m. at Dinkey Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church,1742 Dinkey Rd. Lehighton with the Reverend Anthony P. Pagotto officiating. Call 9:30-11 a.m. Sat. in the church. Masonic Services at 11 a.m. Interment with Military Honors under the direction of the Palmerton UVO in the parish cemetery. Memorial Contributions in his name may be made to the church at 18235.
