William C. Newton, 92, of Lehighton, entered into eternal rest Thursday, May 4, 2023 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus. He was the husband of Mayme (Volkert) Newton. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on March 22, 2023. Born in Jim Thorpe, he was a son of the late Willie and Hilda (Morey) Newton. He was employed as an installer for AT&T and then BellTel Companies for 36 years until his retirement in 1992. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge 621, Lehighton, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton and the BellTell retirees. He was also a life member of the Lehigh Fire Company #1, the Lehighton AMVETS, and the Lehighton American Legion where he was part of the UVO. William enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels.

Surviving along with his wife Mayme are sons Thomas and his wife Tracy (Ashner) of Lehighton and Robert and his wife Kim (Schoch) of Slatington; grandchildren Christopher, Melissa, Michael, Keith, and Nicholas; great grandson Jacob; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a son William “Chark” Newton Jr., sisters Joyce Heil and Lorraine Sitler, and a brother Richard Newton.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, May 08, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home 190 S. 4th St. Lehighton, PA with Rev. Nancy L. Moore officiating. A Military Service will follow at the funeral home. The family will receive friends Monday morning 10-11:00 A.M. in the funeral home.
