Susan Freundt Obituary

Silvonek-Freundt

March 29, 1960-August 29, 2022

On August 29, 2022, Susan Jane Silvonek Freundt passed gently into eternal life at her home in Lehighton, Pennsylvania.  She was 62 at the time of her passing.  Susan was married to Mr. Walter Freundt, also of Lehighton, for more than 37 years.   She was the fourth child and second daughter of Janice Lucille Moyer Silvonek and Edward Stanley Silvonek.  Susan was born in Lehighton and graduated from Lehighton Area High school in 1978.    While in high school, she enjoyed cheerleading, girl scouts, her countless friends, her beloved animals, and any time spent in the great outdoors.

She received a B.S. degree in Environmental Resource Management from Pennsylvania State University, University Park, and while there enjoyed an educational highlight—a field study of coastal and marine ecosystems at Wallops Island, Virginia, where her ashes will eventually be laid to rest.  While at Penn State, Susan also developed a lifelong passion for Nittany Lion football and an abiding interest in US politics.

A lifelong learner, in 1992 she completed a B.S. in Pharmacy from Temple University.  Upon graduation, she returned home and practiced pharmacy for several years at First National Pharmacy in Lehighton.

Susan’s gentle soul, humility, sincere empathy for others, and her beautiful and loving personality will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  Her loss will be most acutely felt, though, by her husband, siblings and their spouses, in-laws and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins who had the privilege of knowing and engaging with Susan throughout her life.  She will also be greatly missed by her Australian shepherd, Henry, and her cat, Johnny, the latest in a series of animals that Susan and Walter adopted, nurtured, and cared for throughout their life together.

Susan was baptized in Lehighton and remained a devout Lutheran throughout her life.  Her family, therefore, takes comfort at this moment of great sadness in the words of Isaiah that, “He will swallow up death forever.  Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces.”

A celebration of Susan’s life is planned for November 4th at 2 p.m. at the Blue Mtn. Community Church, 25 Oak St., Palmerton, Pa. 18071.Call 1-2 p.m. at the church.  In her memory, donations can be made to Blue Mtn. Animal Rescue Society, 1375 Oak Grove Dr., Lehighton, Pa. 18235 Online condolences can be offered at www.ovsakfh.com
