Robert J. "Buckwheat" Sterling, Jr.70, of Lehighton, passed into eternal rest on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Ardens Court Memory Care Unit, Lower Macungie Township, Pa. He was the husband of Kathy L. (Serfass) Sterling. They were married for 33 years on May 11th of this year. Born in Lancaster, Pa. on Wednesday, March 24, 1954, he was a son of the late Robert J. Sr.& Marilyn (Ockenhouse) Sterling. Prior to retirement, he was employed by The New Jersey Zinc/Horsehead Industries, Palmerton, Pa. Bobby was a 1972 Lehighton Area High School graduate where he excelled on the football teams and other sports. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Packerton, and held Life memberships with Lehigh Fire Company #1, and The Beaver Run Rod & Gun Club. He was an avid hunter, especially deer hunting, and enjoyed the out of doors, shooting darts in the local dart leagues, and playing softball with the Chapel Softball team. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Marc Sterling (Kelly) in the US Military, Mike Sterling (Jen) of Lehighton, a sister, Kate Sterling Curran (Craig) of Macungie, 2 brothers, Kenneth Sterling (Susan) of Lehighton, Troy Sterling (Josie) of Palmerton, 3 grandchildren, Riley, Reagan & Derrick Sterling, nieces & nephews. A Memorial Celebration Of Life service in his honor will be held on Friday, Nov. 22nd at 11 a.m. at The Ovsak FH, 190 S. 4th St., Lehighton with SALM Emma Weaver officiating. Call 9:30-11 a.m. Friday. Private Interment. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the Carbon Count Animal Shelter, 63 Broad St. Nesquehoning, Pa. 18240.
