Mrs. Shirley L. (Petro) Ciavaglia

Shirley L. (Petro) Ciavaglia, 86, of Mahoning Valley, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 06, 2022 in Kadima Rehabilitation and Nursing at Luzerne, Drums, PA. She was the wife of Carmen Ciavaglia. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on March 21st of this year. Born in Summit Hill, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Eva L. (Betz) Petro. She was employed as an LPN for the former Coaldale and Lehighton Hospitals and worked in the Lehighton Area School District with the multi-handicapped children. Shirley also worked beside her husband at Penn Hill Furniture, Weissport. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Lehighton where she was an active member of the Altar Rosary Society. She also loved playing bingo.

Surviving along with her husband are two daughters Carol Ciavaglia of Mahanoy City and Toni Louise Ciavaglia of Mahoning Valley; a sister Marie Morgans of Riverside, PA; three grandchildren Trudy and Raymond Anderson and Carolyn Woodring all of Mahanoy City; 9 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister Betty Evon and two brothers John and Charles Petro.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 260 N. 3rd St., Lehighton, PA, with Rev. Christopher Zelonis officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bloomingdale. Call Wednesday morning 10-11:00 A.M. in the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in her name to the Alzheimer Association, 2595 Interchange Drive Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
