Mrs. Joan Elizabeth (Goral) Schlecht

Mrs. Joan Elizabeth Schlecht, 90, of Lehighton, passed into eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 9th at St. Luke's Hospital-Franklin. She was the wife of Paul R. Schlecht. They were married for 67 years on Sept. 7th, 2024. Born in Coaldale, Pa. on Tuesday, Aug. 21st, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Michael & Helen (Lenick) Goral. Joan was a graduate of The Frankford Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at The Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital with 40 years of service where she spent 38 of those years as the manager of the operating room. She was a member of SS Peter & Paul RC Church Lehighton where she served as the parish nurse. She enjoyed Shopping, Antiquing, Traveling, and spending time with her husband, her brother and his wife & enjoyed special times with her extended family. She had a special place in her heart for her canine buddy named "Rusty". Surviving in addition to her husband is a brother Michael Goral & his wife Sylvia of Palmerton, Pa., nieces, nephews, cousins, & many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial in her honor will be held on Sat. Jan. 18th at 11 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul RC Church, 260 N. 3rd St., Lehighton with Reverend Christopher M. Zelonis & Deacon Joseph C. Wilhelm Jr. officiating. Call 10-11 a.m. Sat in the church. Interment private at the convenience of the family. Memorial Contributions in her honor may be made to the church at 18235.
