Helen Cecelia (Grimes) Hayman, of Lehighton, age 84, passed away on January 4, 2024 at LV Cedar Crest Hospital, Allentown, PA. She was born on October 31, 1939 in Frugality, PA to Blanche and Francis Grimes. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert Richard Hayman, who died on February 5, 2019. Surviving are a son, Mark and his wife Karen, and a daughter Heather and her husband Dan Putkowski, one grandchild, Callie Jade Hayman, who was the apple of her eye. She was predeceased by 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Surviving siblings: Cleo Spear of Bangor, ME; Mary Lou Nuti of Mentor, OH; Joyce Baker of Clearfield, PA; Francis Grimes of Fallentimber, PA and James Grimes (Frances) of Irvona, PA. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins.
She graduated from Beccaria, Coalport, Irvona (BCI) High School in Coalport, Clearfield County in 1958. After graduating, she worked as a service representative for Bell Telephone in Harrisburg, PA. She moved to Allentown and later to Lehighton, PA in 1971. She got her LPN license from CCTI in 1981. She was the secretary for her husband’s business, Robert Hayman Water Systems, for 25 years.
She was of the Catholic faith. She liked to be busy and was very involved throughout the years with the American Cancer Society, Arthritis Foundation, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Miss Carbon County Pageant, and taught tap and ballet at the Gloria Dillion School of Dance. Her greatest joy was being with her family, her pets, and reading good books.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, Lehighton, PA. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 16 N. 4th Street, Minersville, PA 17954. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 20th at 11AM at the Mahoning Valley Fire Company, 2358 Mahoning Drive West, Lehighton, PA 18235.
