Mrs. Dorothy W. Highland, 89, of East Penn Township, Pa. passed into eternal rest on Tues. Aug. 27th at her residence. She was the wife of the late John R. Highland who passed away Jan. 12, 2008. Born in East Penn Township on Dec. 3, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Harley & Myrtle (Reinsmith) Smith. Prior to her retirement in 1996, she was employed as a garment worker at Scotty's Fashions with 26 years of service. She was of the Lutheran Faith. Dorothy was crowned the Carbon County Applebutter Queen in 1954. She was an avid walker and enjoyed attending car shows in the family's 1968 T-Bird, flowers,& Casino's. She always stated that she never met a stranger and loved talking to anyone. Surviving is a daughter, Brenda L. Sides, of East Penn Township, 2 sons, Randy A. Highland of East Penn Township, Brian A. Highland of Kentucky, a step-son, Jack W. Highland & his wife Marina of Danielsville. 2 sisters, Ruth Ann Recica of Lehighton, Sarah Burda of Allentown, a brother, Robert Smith of Lehighton, 4 step-grandchildren & 4 step-greatgrandchildren, nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Elda Green, & brothers, Clarence, Terry, David, & Harley Smith Jr. The Family would like to graciously thank Tammy Easterly & St. Luke's Hospice for all of their consideration and loving care of Dorothy. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 30th at 11 a.m. at The Ovsak FH, 190 S4th St., with SALM Emma Weaver officiating. Call 9:30-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment in The Lehighton Cemetery. Memorial Contributions in her honor may be sent to St. Luke's Hospice, 2455 Black River Road, Bethlehem, Pa. 18015.
