Obituary

Mrs. Betty I. Mertz, 96, of Mahoning Valley, Pa. passed into eternal rest on Sat. May 6th at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. She was the wife of Franklin D. Mertz of Mahoning Valley. They were married for 62 years on April 16th of this year. Born in Long Run, Franklin Township on Wed. Nov. 24th, 1926, she was a daughter of the late John W. & Minnie (Andrews) Caffrey Sr. Prior to her retirement, she was employed in the garment industry for Bishop Mills. Surviving in addition to her husband are 3 daughters, Marla, wife of Joe Lawson of West Penn Township, Lisa, wife of Doug Makofka of Jim Thorpe, Bonnie DeHaven of Selinsgrove, a son Robert Mertz of Franklin Township, 5 grandchildren, Robert, Melissa, Olivia, Emma, Kris and 1 great-grandson, Eli. She was predeceased by 2 sons, Steve Mertz, Richard DeHaven,  & sisters & brothers, Willard, Mary, Lillian, Danny, Pat, Bessie, Mable, Jeanie, Minnie, Bill, Peg, Johnie, & Barbara. Services & Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial Contributions in her honor may be made to The American Diabetes Assoc. P.O. Box 7023 Merrifield, Va. 22116-7023.
