Mrs. Barbara Heckman Obituary

Mrs. Barbara SaraAnn (Cunfer) Heckman, 85, of Mahoning Township, passed away on Monday, Jan. 18th at St. Luke’s Warren Campus in Phillipsburg, NJ. She was the widow of Donald F. Heckman Sr. who died on Oct. 2, 1986. Born in Mahoning Valley on Friday, Jan. 17, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Claude W. & Arvilla M. (Eckhart) Cunfer. She was the  companion of the late John Milhalik. Barb was a 1953 graduate of Lehighton Area High School and attended the Bethlehem Business School. Throughout her life, she was employed by various clothing factories, having last worked for Tom’s Sportswear, Lehighton before its closing in 2001. At age 65, she decided to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She worked for the Mahoning Valley Nursing Home, Quality/In home Health Care and up until last month, was still working privately. She was known as “Mem” to not only her family but to anyone that knew her. Her love and compassion for her family and loved ones will be missed dearly by all who were blessed to have known her. Barbara was a member of Jacob’s UCC, Weissport, & The Fraternal Order of Orioles Nest #183. Surviving is a daughter, DonnaMarie, wife of Russell Ahner, 2 sons, Donald F. Heckman Jr., Robert W. Heckman & his wife Michele (Walck), a sister, Nancy, wife of James Shaffer, all of Lehighton, a brother in law, Paul J. Mischko of Danielsville, 5 grandchildren, Shawneen Romito, SarahAnn , wife of Luke Graver, Jeannine, wife of Philip Gallagher III, Cory Heckman, Jared Ahner & his wife Megan,  Great-grandchildren, Angelina, Alyson,&  Aleise  Romito, Cadence, Cora,&  Charlotte Graver, Lillian & Phillip Gallagher IV, Mia Graver, Weston & Logan Ahner, nieces & nephews .Public visitation Monday, Jan. 25th from 9-11 a.m. at the Ovsak FH, 190 S. 4th St., Lehighton. Funeral Services at the funeral home will be private. Family & friends are encouraged to attend the Committal Service at 11:45 a.m. Monday in Franklin Heights Memorial Park, E. Weissport with the Rev. Eunice Hearn officiating. COVID 19 restrictions are in place, face masks are mandatory, Please limit your time with the family during the visitation so others attending the visitation will have time to convey their sympathies as well.
