Mr. Stephen B. “Pappy” Tkach, known to his nieces & nephews as “Uncle Shorty”, 84, of Lehighton, passed into eternal rest on Tues. Jan. 5th at his residence. He was the husband of Helene E. (Wert) Tkach. They were married for 40 years last May 31st, 2020. Born in Lehighton on Thursday, May 21, 1936, he was a son of the late George F. and Margaret C. (Pillar) Tkach Sr. Stephen was a 1953 Lehighton Area High School graduate and a Stevens Trade School graduate as well. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by The Lehighton Borough Water Authority and Electrical Department as a meter reader. He was a devout member of SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Lehighton, and held a Life membership at Lehigh Fire Co. #1. An avid Notre Dame football fan, he was very instrumental in the founding of the Lehighton Area Knee High Football program and was the 1st coach of the Knee High Notre Dame Football team and volunteered his time on the Lehighton Area Indians Football Field “Chain Gang” for over 40 years. He loved purchasing clothing and could be seen in Lehighton wearing many of his nice sport coats. He enjoyed spending time at the beach, traveling, and time to "Rutch" to the Amish Country. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Roblene, wife of James Sebesta of Moore Township, 2 sons, Robert Rehnert of Franklin Township, Rodney Rehnert & his companion, Rhonda Zerbe, of Mahoning Township, a sister, Regina, wife of Lamont “Mike” Ebbert of Lehighton, a sister in law, Shirley “Sadie” Tkach of Delaware, 5 grandchildren, Casandra, Alexandra, Evan, Zane, Jared, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, George F. Tkach Jr. & & Francis “Lover” Tkach. Funeral Services & Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
