Mr. Ronald W. Mertz

Mr. Ronald W. Mertz, 79, of Mahoning Township, passed into eternal rest on Friday, June 10th at the Hospice House of the VNA of St. Luke’s, Center Valley, Pa. He was the husband of Sarah A. (Danyo) Mertz. He passed away on their 61st wedding anniversary. Born in Lehighton, Pa. on Friday, Nov. 20th, 1942, he was a son of the late Frederick & Dorothy (Hall) Mertz. Ronald was formerly employed by the NJ Zinc Co., Palmerton, as a foreman for 20+ years and later worked as a heavy equipment operator for George Miller excavating for 10+ years. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Packerton, and held a Life membership at the Beaver Run Rod & Gun Club, & held a social membership at the Ukrainian Homestead. In his spare time, he could be found with his loving wife & family, driving his Kubota 4X4, and deer hunting in the local area. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Lisa, wife of Joseph Napolitano of Georgetown, Texas, a son, Ronald Mertz Jr. of Lehighton, 2 sisters, Geraldine Yale, Martine Snyder, 2 brothers, Richard Mertz & Fiance Donna, & Larry Mertz & Fiance Valerie, all of Lehighton, 3 grandchildren, Alyssa, Ceara Rose, Andrew, 2 Great-grandchildren, Ava Rose, Blaze, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by 3 sisters, Marlowe Hancharick, Betty Moyer, June Koch, & 2 brothers, Russell Mertz  & Gerald Mertz.  A graveside Celebration of life Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 15th at 11 a.m. in the Packerton Cemetery, Beaver Run Drive, Mahoning Township with SALM Emma Weaver officiating.
