Mr. Richard L. Smith, 75, of Lehighton, Pa. passed into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 5th at St. Luke's Hospital, Hamilton St., Allentown, Pa. He was the husband of Jean M. (Snyder) Smith. They were married for 55 years last October 31st, 2019. Born in Palmerton, Pa. on Friday, July 7, 1944, he was the son of the late George & Louise (Hauser) Smith. He served our country with the United States Marine Corps Reserves during the Viet Nam War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by The New Jersey Zinc Company/Horsehead Industries, Palmerton, Pa. Richard held Life memberships with Lehigh Fire Co. #1 & The Beaver Run Rod & Gun Club. An avid racing enthuiast, he enjoyed watching the events at The Mahoning Valley Speedway and #3 & #8 Earnhardt family racing on the NASCAR circuit. He was a big follower of The Lehighton Indians High School Football Events and loved walking "Jeter", the family Weimaraner. Surviving in addition to hs wife are 2 sons, Jeff Smith & his wife Shelley of Lehighton, Jason Smith & his wife Tina of Jim Thorpe, 2 grandchildren, Nathan & Jena Smith, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Long. Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
