Mr. Richard L. Herlihy, 84 of Mahoning Township, passed into eternal rest on Sunday, Aug. 16th at his residence. He was the husband of the late Patricia L. (Stevens) Herlihy who passed away Dec. 2, 1998. Born in Baltimore Md. on Wednesday, March 25, 1936, he was the son of the late Joseph & Myrtle (Beltz) Herlihy.He served our country with the US Army attaining the rank of PFC (T) with the Co D, 92nd Engineering Battalion.Prior to his retirement, he was a self employed Artist in the local area. Many of his personalized paintings were displayed on storefront businesses windows through out the years. He was the former owner of The Lehighton Taxi Company & The Lehighton Answering Service and formerly worked at LANECO and The Cabon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit.Richard was of the Catholic Faith and attended Mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe. He was a former member of The Lehighton Orioles Nest #183 and The Beaver Run Rod & Gun Club. In addition to his love of Art, he enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with his loving family. Surviving are 4 daughters, Shalmar Herlihy Mantz & her companion, Chris Aungst of Mahoning Township, Marie Herlihy Ostrander of Palmerton, Bonnie, wife of John Broderick of Boothwyn, Pa., Virginia, wife of Frank Dischel of Frederick Md., a son Joseph Herlihy & his wife Katie of Lansford, Pa., 8 grandchildren, Matthew, Kasandra, Taylor, Jacquelyn, Keegan, Sierra, Kylie, Sophia, 2 Great-grandsons, Bryce & Daniel. Funeral Services will be held on Friday Aug. 21st at 10:30 a.m. at The Ovsak FH, 190 S. 4th St., Lehighton, Pa. with the Rev. Francis J. Baransky officiating. Call 8:30-10:30 a.m. Military Interment in SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, N. 4th St., Lehighton with the Lehighton Area UVO officiating following the services. COVID 19 restrictions will be in place. Masks are mandatory.
