Mr. Lamont "Mike" R. Ebbert

Lamont R. “Mike” Ebbert, 91, of Lehighton, entered eternal rest on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024, at Lehigh Valley Carbon Hospital. He leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Regina “Jeannie” (Tkach) Ebbert.

Born in Weissport, he was the son of the late Bertram and Arvilla (Campbell) Ebbert.

Mike was born on Feb. 22, 1933, and graduated from Lehighton High School in 1951. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. After the Navy, he received a bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg State Teacher’s College. In the following years he earned a master’s degree from Kutztown University and Principal’s Certificate from Lehigh University.

He taught in the Lehighton Area School District from 1959 to 1972 when he became Assistant Principal of Lehighton High School. He later became Principal of three Lehighton Elementary Schools before returning to Lehighton High School until his retirement.

Mike was an active member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church and was a member of the Carbon County Knights of Columbus Damien Council #598.

He coached football at Lehighton High School from 1959 to 1971, some of those years as a successful head coach. He also coached Track & Field and Girl’s Softball. Throughout the years, Mike was honored for his accomplishments. He was inducted into the Lehighton Education and Athletic Foundation (LEAF), The Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame, and the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.

Throughout the years, Mike was a member of borough council and was a member of Lehighton’s Water Authority Board for 34 years. He was a Lifetime Member of Lehigh Fire Company #1 and was a member of Lehighton American Legion Post #314. He co-authored a book about the town of Lehighton.

Surviving in addition to his widow are his children: Daughter, Michelle (husband William Stoudt), Sons, George and Stephen, Daughter-In-Law, Melissa. Grandchildren: Jeffrey, Katherine, Phillip, Julianna. Brother: Bruce (wife Shirley), Sister-In-Laws, many nieces, and nephews.

He was predeceased by a Son: Gregory Ebbert, Brother: Jack Ebbert, Sister: Fay Hahn

Visitation: SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Monday Jan.6, 2025 from 9 AM until Noon

Mass of Christian Burial: SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church Jan. 6, 2025, at Noon followed by Military Honors under the direction of the Lehighton Area UVOI. Private burial at the convenience of the family.
