Mr. Joseph E. Mustacchio, 91, of Lehighton, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 18th, surrounded by family. He was the loving husband of Barbara A. (Gresh) Mustacchio for 63 years before her passing on March 16, 2024. Joe, better known as Jeepy to family & friends was born in Coaldale on Dec. 25th, 1932 to Epiphanio & Mary (Lutsko) Mustacchio. Upon graduating from Summit Hill High School, he joined the US Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. After honorably serving his country, he worked at the Bethlehem Steel as a Production and Planning Supervisor for the Iron & Brass Foundries, retiring in 1986. He ended his career at Lehighton Area School District as the Attendance Officer. Joe was a devout member of SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Lehighton where he served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and was a member of The Holy Name Society for many years before moving to Sacred Heart Assisted Living in Northampton. He was a life long member of the Lehighton American Legion Post 314, the Lehigh Fire Co. #1, and the Beaver Run Rod & Gun Club. Joe loved his family more than anything. He put them first in his life and went way out of his way to help them no matter the time of day. His children & grandchildren were his pride and joy, never missing a sporting event, choral concert, or High School and College graduation. He loved big band music & polka's, there was never a family event that did not end with dancing! He will be dearly missed. Surviving are his daughters, Denise Polzer (Timothy), Coplay, Colette Kresge ( Steven) Lehighton. Grandchildren, Dr. Gabriel Kresge (Dr. Kate Kresge), West Chester, Olivia Howell (Tyler), Schnecksville, Nathaniel Kresge (Fiance-Taralyn Oderman), Bath, Zachery Polzer (Summer) Allentown, Great grandson Rhys Howell, Sister, Sylvia Burns, Hillsborough, NJ, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Constance Sotak, & brothers, Cosmo, Abbie, Salvator, & Michael. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on July 25th at 11 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul RC Church, 3rd &Coal St. Lehighton, Pa. with Reverend Christopher M. Zelonis officiating assisted by Deacon Joseph C. Wilhelm Jr. Call 9:30-11 a.m. in the church. Military Interment in the parish cemetery following the Mass under the direction of the Lehighton Area UVO. Memorial Contributions in his honor may be made to the church at 18235.
