Mr. Glenn F. Barry

Glenn Barry, 92, of Lehighton, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday January 21, 2021.  He was the husband of Betty J. Barry and they were married on August 6, 1949, in Marysville, Kansas and remained happily married for 71 years.  He was born on November 6, 1928 in Weissport, PA to the late Elmer F. and Ruth A. (Arner) Barry.  He graduated from Lehighton High School in 1946.  He played varsity basketball and Trumpet in the LHS Marching Band (his nickname was “Harry James, Jr”).  

He enlisted in the US Army on January 6, 1947 and played in the 62nd Army Band at Fort Bliss, Texas until his Honorable Discharge on June 14, 1948.  In early 1950, he joined the Union Pacific (UP) Railroad and worked out of Hastings, Nebraska, as a brakeman.  Glenn, hired as a brakeman for the Lehigh Valley RR on December 1, 1955, and retired as a conductor from Conrail on July 1, 1991.

Surviving in addition to his wife, son David and wife Helga, son Douglas, daughter Deanna and husband Herb Gasker, and son Darren and wife Arlene; his sister Joan Richmond; grand-children include Bettina and husband David Smalley, Karen and husband Dave Brucz, Jessica and Derek Samley, Nathan, Arastina, John, and Sean; great grand-children include Christy, Adam, Kendall, Kylie, and Connor and nieces and nephews.
