Mr. Edward Joseph Finney Jr.

Mr. Edward Joseph Finney, Jr., 96, of Lehighton, Pa. passed into eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 11th at his residence. He was the husband of Grace H. (Ouly) Finney. They were married for 74 years last February 2023. Born in Lehighton, Pa. on Thursday, April 21st, 1927, he was a son of the late Edward Joseph Sr. & Mary (Hager) Finney. He served our country with the US Navy during World War II attaining the rank of Seaman 2nd Class in the European Theater operations while serving aboard the USS Laub, Nields, & Young. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by CONRAIL and previously was employed by The Lehigh Valley Railroad, Bethlehem Steel Corporation and The Jersey Central Railroad. A man of many trades, he also worked as a carpenter, bricklayer, and tended bar at The former Carbon House in Lehighton, and The Lehigh Fire Co. #1. Ed was an active member of SS Peter & Paul RC Church, Lehighton where he previously was an Altar Server and Parish Usher. He held Life memberships with The Beaver Run Rod & Gun Club, and Lehigh Fire Co. #1. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Edward James Finney  and his wife Linda of East Penn Township, Richard T. Finney & his wife Cindy of Lehighton, 4 grandchildren, Christopher, Sheila, Michele, Melissa, 3 Greatgrandchildren, Jeremy, Max, & Brody, nieces nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Eleanor Focht, Margaret Vathis, and a brother, James Finney. A Mass of Christian Burial in his honor will be held on Friday, January 19th at 11 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul RC Church 3rd & Coal St. Lehighton with the Rev. Christopher M. Zelonis officiating assisted by Deacon Joseph C. Wilhelm Jr. Call 10-11 a.m. Friday in the church. Military Interment under the direction of the Lehighton Area UVO following the Mass in the parish cemetery, N. 4th St. Lehighton.
