Mr. Claude L. West, Jr., 76, of Lehighton, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away Thursday, June 28, in The Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Winifred C. (Christman) West. They were married for 54 years on Jan. 18th of this year. Born in Elmira, New York on Friday, November 7, 1941, he was a son of the late Claude L. & Margaret West Sr. He served our country with the US Army during the Viet Nam War attaining the rank of SP4. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a mechanic for Panther Valley Carriers and previously worked in the same capacity for Schleicher’s Trucking. He was of the Lutheran Faith. He was a former member of East Penn Sporting Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping and fishing with his loving family and riding his Harley Davidson Police motorcycle. He was loved by all of his neighbors. Surviving is a sister, Claudette, wife of Ed Mickeljohn of Mansfield, Pa., a brother, Keith West & his wife Ruth of Kentucky, 16 children; 8 daughters, Karen, Sue, Heather, Melissa, Crystal of Lehighton, Jenny of York, Beth, wife of Willie Peters of Mill Hall, Eileen Hontz of Lansford, 8 sons, Ken, Tom, Chip, Steven of Lehighton, Ron & Mike of Tamaqua, Scott & his wife Kim of Colorado, Mark & his wife Cathy of Missouri, 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Lois Haidvogel. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 3rd at 11 a.m. at The Ovsak FH, 190 S. 4th St., Lehighton followed by interment with military honors under the direction of The Lehighton Area UVO in The Gnaden Huetten Cemetery, 4th & Union St., Lehighton.
