Mayme K. Newton, 93, of Lehighton, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, January 28, 2025 in Arden Courts of Allentown, Nursing Facility. She was the wife of the late William C. Newton who passed away May 4, 2023. Born in Weissport, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mayme L. (Gomery) Volkert. She was employed as a seamstress for the former Scotty’s Fashions in Lehighton until her retirement. She also delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a graduate of Lehighton High School Class of 1949. She was a member of Trinty Lutheran Church, Lehighton where she was very involved helping with the food pantry, The Trinity Trumpet, and was a member of the Knotters. Mayme enjoyed playing cards, Sudoku puzzles and wintering in Myrtle Beach, but especially loved her family and time spent with them at the summer cabin.
Surviving are sons Thomas and his wife Tracy (Ashner) of Lehighton and Robert and his wife Kim (Schoch) of North Whitehall; a sister Fay Thomas of Lehighton; grandchildren Christopher, Melissa, Michael and his wife Emmalea, Keith and Nicholas; great grandson Jacob; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son William “Chark” Newton Jr., sisters Infant Gladys, Lenore Young, Miriam Giovenco, and Marie Balliet, and brothers Russell, Willard, Charles Jr., Richard, Luther, and Kenneth.
Funeral Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Donations will be accepted in her name to Trinty Lutheran Food Pantry, 175 S. 3rd St., Lehighton, PA 18235. Online condolences at www.ovsakfh.com.
