Maryann F. (Hadnagy) Rakos

Maryann Frances Rakos, 83, of Lehighton, entered into rest Saturday, September 13, 2025 in Abode Care of Allentown. She was the wife of the late Joseph M. Rakos who preceded her in death April 27, 1994. Born in Nesquehoning, Maryann was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary (York) Hadnagy. She was employed as an RN for the former Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton until her retirement in 1996. Maryann was a graduate of Nesquehoning High School Class of 1960 and a graduate of Sacred Heart School of Nursing. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Church, Lehighton. In 2018 Maryann underwent a life-changing lung transplant, which enabled her to continue the activities she most enjoyed including quilting, cross stitching, baking. and especially, spending more time with family. Surviving are two daughters, Michelle F. Bayda and husband Brian of Bethlehem and Diane M. Rakos and partner Robert Harrison of Blandon; sons, David M. Rakos of Lehighton and Jeffrey M. Rakos and wife Debra, also of Lehighton; and sister, Elizabeth Lopata of Nesquehoning. Maryann was also blessed with 12 grandchildren: Nathanael Rakos and his wife Emily of Connecticut and Alexander Rakos and his fiancée Tyler Ann Schellenberg, also of Connecticut; Harrison and Emily Rakos of Nesquehoning; Lauren, Matthew, and Griffin Bayda of Bethlehem; Abigail, Owen, and Madeleine Rakos of Lehighton and Olivia and Benjamin Harrison of Blandon; along with several nieces and a nephew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 12:00 P.M. in SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 260 N. 3rd St. Lehighton, PA with Rev. Christopher M. Zelonis and Deacon Joseph C. Wilhelm Jr. officiating. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery, Lehighton. Call Wednesday morning 10-11:30 A.M. in the Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, 190 S. 4th St. Lehighton, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in her name to the church, or to the American Lung Association.
