Ellen N. Diaz, 83, of Mahoning Valley, Pa. passed away Thursday, January 21st at her residence. She was the companion of Herlin Haberman. Born in Summit Hill, Pa. on Wed. May 12th, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Grover & Josephine (Derby) Frantz. Ellen was a 1958 graduate of The Hazleton State Hospital School of Nursing. She was a very devout and active member of Ben Salem United Church of Christ, Lehighton where she served as Elder, Deacon, and Church Council President. She served as a moderator for the Penn Northeast Conference of the United Church of Christ and volunteered on the Committee of Clergy Placement at various churches in the area. Surviving are 3 daughters, Dr. Susan Diaz, M.D., wife of Steve DeRoma of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dr. Rebecca Diaz, PhD, wife of Mark Dobbins of North East, Maryland, Attorney Amy Diaz, wife of Eric Hewit of Denver, Colorado, a son David Diaz and his wife Ashley Libby Diaz of Durango, Colorado, a brother, Chester Frantz of West Penn Township, Pa., nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a brother David Frantz. Services will be held on Thursday, January 28th at 10 a.m. at Ben Salem UCC, 1965 Church Hill Rd., Lehighton, with the Reverend Kent Rhodehamel, the Reverend James Cope, & the Reverend Cliff Herring officiating.
