Mr. Edward J. Conarty Jr., 92, of Lehighton, Pa., passed into eternal rest on Thursday, February 11th at The Phoebe Allentown Health Center, Allentown, Pa. He was the husband of the late Mary (Chmel) Conarty who passed away June 5th, 2003. They were married in 1955. Born in Lehighton, Pa. on Friday, August 10, 1928, he was the son of the late Edward J. & Rotha (Dot) (Snyder) Conarty Sr. Ed was a graduate of The Lehighton Area High School. He served our country with the US Army during WW II with the 9201st Technical Support Unit attaining the rank of Sergeant. Prior to his recent retirement, he was employed for the Bennett Organization as a salesperson. He previously was employed by Bayer’s Store, Lehighton, as an installer. Ed was a devout member of SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Lehighton and was a member of SS Peter & Paul Holy Name Society. He was a Retired Fire Chief of The Lehighton Fire Department, and was a founding member and former President of the Lehigh Fire Co. #1 Ambulance Association. Ed previously served as Treasurer of the 4 County Fireman’s Association, and held Life memberships with Lehigh Fire Company #1, the Keystone Fire Chiefs Association, and held memberships with the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1284 Lehighton, Pa. and The Lehighton American Legion Shoemaker/Haydt Post 314. Surviving is a sister, Marie Mriss , 2 nephews, Paul Mriss & his wife Ruth Ann of Lehighton, Robert Chmel & his wife Kim of Arizona ,a great niece, 2 great nephews and their spouses. A Mass of Christian Burial in his honor will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 15th at 10:30 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul RC Church, 260 N. 3rd St., Lehighton, with the Reverend Christopher M. Zelonis officiating. Call 9-10:30 in the church. Please adhere to social distancing, face masks are mandatory. Please limit your time with the family during the visitation so everyone has a chance to offer sympathies to the family. Interment following the Mass in Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown, Pa. with Full Military Honors under the direction of the Lehighton Area UVO.
