Catherine R. “Dolly” (Schwarz) Heery, 81, of Lehighton passed peacefully in her sleep from this world to the next on Monday, September 4.
Married on Saturday, November 20, 1965, she was the loving wife of the late Francis A. Heery for 56 years.
Born in Allentown on Tuesday, July 21, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Catherine (Kruse) Schwarz.
A graduate of Central Catholic High School, she worked several jobs through the years, including Traub’s Market, GAC Finance, Inc., and Capital Blue Cross – all in Allentown; in the candy department of Bright’s Department Store in Lehighton; and the family business – Old Mauch Chunk Model Train Display in Jim Thorpe.
But if you asked Cathy, her favorite job of all was devoted mother and grandmother – cheering her boys on at their various sports practices and games over the years.
Surviving are two sons – Michael and his wife Erica of Lehighton and beloved grand-pup Vincent van Gogh and Christopher and his wife Gretchen of Lehighton and treasured grandsons – Joseph, Ryan, Sean, and Stephen. She is also survived by a brother Vincent and his wife Joann of Hawley – as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dolly was predeceased by a sister Frances of Jim Thorpe.
A long-time member of SS. Peter and Paul Church in Lehighton, she was active in the Parish Altar and Rosary Society for many years – in addition to helping the family with many Knights of Columbus projects, for which she and her family earned the distinction of “Family of the Year” for District # 29.
