Mr. Berlan D. Smith, 82, of East Penn Township, passed into eternal rest on Sat. Nov. 20th at his residence. He was the husband of Dolores J. Markley Solt since July 1985. Born in East Penn Township on Monday Nov. 13th, 1939, he was a son of the late Allen W. & Mabel M. (Hawk) Smith. He served our country with the US Army during the Viet Nam War attaining the rank of PFC. Prior to his retirement, he was a self employed custom cabinet maker. He was of the Lutheran faith. An avid classic car & NASCAR racing enthusiast, he was a former member of the Jukebox Cruisers and enjoyed watching #6, Mark Martin and several other drivers on the racing circuit. Surviving in addition to his wife is a stepson, Mark Solt & his wife Lori of Ashfield, 2 daughters, Jennifer wife of Jeff White of Albrightsville, Tiffany, wife of Morris McPherson of Las Vegas, 3 step-brothers, Richard German & his wife Ann of East Penn Township, Jerry German & Terry German of California, many grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a step-brother, Robert F. Smith & 2 stepdaughters, Linda Tyson & Sheila Hill. A Memorial Celebration Of Life service in his honor will be held on Friday, Nov. 26th at 11 a.m. at The Ovsak FH, 190 S. 4th St., Lehighton with the Rev .Anthony P. Pagotto officiating. Call 9:30-11 a.m. at the funeral home. The interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial Contributions in his honor may be made to a charity of choice.
