Barry-Lee Ahner, Sr., age 80 of Packerton, PA, passed away May 17, 2023. He was born in Walcksville, PA May 3, 1943, to Clyde and Marian Ahner. He grew up in Packerton, was a member of the last graduating class of Packerton High School and attended Thaddeus Stevens Trade School in Lancaster. As a young man, he met his loving wife of 60 years, Susan J. (Ginder) Ahner at LaRose’s, bought property in Packerton where they raised their five children: Barry-Lee Jr (Packerton), Brenda (Nesquehoning), Kimberly (Johns Creek, GA), Todd and wife Heidi (Packerton), and Chad and wife Jill (Weatherly). They have seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Gordon and wife Kathy Ahner (Packerton) and Chris and wife Donna (Palmerton). He was predeceased by his parents Clyde and Marian, sister Doan, brother Vernon and sister Eileen Snyder.
Barry-Lee was a member and served as church councilman at Zion Lutheran Evangelical Church of Packerton. He was a lifetime member of both the Lehighton Fire Company #1 and the Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid bird watcher, green-thumb gardener, and multi-disciplined handy man. Throughout his life, he owned 67 different automobiles, and traveled along the east coast to see dirt track racing. He worked at Scotty’s Fashions and Solt’s Garage, delivered natural gas, and held several positions in the pre-fabrication steel structure industry, including crane operator, welder, and plant foreman.
Graveside service and internment will be held Saturday, May 27th at 11am in the Packerton Cemetery, officiated by Chaplin Stefan Dinu. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Arbor Day Foundation 211 N 12th Street, Lincoln NE 68508 or at www.arborday.org.
