Richard Houseman Obituary

Retired Pennsylvania State Police Trooper, Richard S. “Dick” Houseman, 77, of Franklin Township, Pa., passed into eternal rest on Tuesday evening, October 9th at his residence with his loving & caring wife & family at his side.  He was the husband of Rosemary T. (Sikorsky) Houseman. They were married for 55 years this past June 8th, 2018. Born Wednesday July 30, 1941 in Lehighton, Pa., he was the son of the late Edwin H. & Catherine S. (Nothstein) Houseman. He was a 1959 Lehighton Area High School graduate. Richard later worked for the Chestnut Ridge Railroad from 1960-1968. He joined the Pa. State Police November 7, 1968. He first served with Troop K, Philadelphia, Montgomery County and was stationed at Schwenksville, Pa. after graduating from the State Police Academy. He was then transferred and stationed at Delaware County serving at the Media Pa. Barracks for 5 years. He was later assigned to Troop N Hazleton and then transferred to the Lehighton State Police Barracks for his last  20 years of service. He became a Criminal Investigator in 1976 until his retirement. After retirement, he worked for The Carbon County Sheriff’s office for 2 years, and later served the District Attorney’s office for 3 years.  He held a Private Investigators license for 8 years. “Dick” was a Life member of Lehigh Fire Company #1, Lehighton and held a membership with The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #38. A very dedicated husband, father, & grandfather, he enjoyed spending quality time with his immediate family and friends. After retirement, he enjoyed Ocean Cruising, Traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach, Bowling in The Lehighton Mixed Bowlers League, Golfing, and spending time at the family “Barefoot Pavilion” in Mahoning Township. His attributes in life exemplified him as the perfect “Family Man”. Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 daughters, Donna Marie, wife of Douglas Reabold of Lehighton, Christine Ann, wife of Rod Green of Franklin Township, a sister, Sarepta “Betty” , wife of Harvey Willet of Lehighton, 4 grandchildren, Nicole Reabold, Kaycie (Reabold) Hunsicker, Jared Green, Danielle Green, 2 great-grandchildren, Cayden & Cameron Green.Nieces & Nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Dolores Strohl, & a brother, Willie Houseman. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 13th at 11 a.m. at The Ovsak FH, 190 S. 4th St., Lehighton with Deacon Joseph Wilhelm officiating. Call 8-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment in SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, N. 4th St., Lehighton.
