Mrs. Mary C. (Calpin) Meier

Mrs. Mary C. Meier, 93, formerly of Lehighton, passed away Thursday, January 4th in West Penn Township. She was the wife of the late Francis J. Meier who died on May 15th, 1988. Born in Ashland, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Thomas & Catherine (Dougherty) Calpin. She was a graduate of The Reading High School  and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Albright College, Reading, Pa. Prior to retiring, she was a Home Economics Teacher for The Lehighton Area School District. Mary was an active member of SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Lehighton. She served as a parish Eucharistic Minister and administered communion to many of the parish’s homebound & hospitalized members. She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church Altar & Rosary Society and volunteered on the church cleaning crew. She was a member of the Pa. Assoc. of School Retiree’s & The Western Pocono Family & Consumer Science Assoc. In her spare time, she served with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. She enjoyed tending to her loving grandchildren, sewing, quilting, reading, gardening & attending daily mass. Surviving are 3 sons, James F. Meier of Lehighton, Thomas J. Meier of Virginia, John J. Meier & his wife Esther of New Ringgold, a sister, Anne Kakos, of Shillington, Pa. 4 grandchildren, Joseph, Michael, Rachael, Emily Meier, nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Father Thomas Calpin. Prayers will be held on Monday, January 8th at 9:30 a.m. at The Ovsak FH, 190 S. 4th St., Lehighton with Deacon Joseph Wilhelm officiating followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul RC Church, 242 N. 3rd St., Lehighton with the Reverend Michael E. Ahrensfield officiating. Rosary Recitation 8:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home under the direction of Mrs. Pat Fritzinger and The SS Peter & Paul RC Church Altar & Rosary Society. Call 6-8 p.m. Sunday the 7th & Monday the 8th from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
