Mrs. Jane Louyse (Steigerwalt) Kriner

March 11, 1930 ~ March 29, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old


Mrs. Jane L. Kriner, 87, of 3 Lentz Avenue, Lehighton, Pa. formerly of East Penn Township, passed into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 29th at The Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, Pa. She was the wife of the late Richard M. Kriner Jr. who passed away July 18, 2009. Born in Palmerton, Pa. she was the daughter of the late Guy P. & Bertha M. (Frantz) Steigerwalt. She was a graduate of The Lehighton Area High School, Class of 1947. She furthered her education at The Allentown Hospital School of Nursing graduating with the Class of  1951 as a registered nurse.  Upon graduation she worked at  The Allentown General Hospital,  and  later enjoyed working as a private duty nurse for The Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, and The Pennsylvania State Health Office in Lansford, Pa. She retired from The Mahoning  Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center as the Director Of Nursing in 1993 with 42 total years of nursing care service. A devout christian, Jane was a faithful member of Ben Salem United Church of Christ, East Penn Township where she formerly served on the parish choir & taught vacation bible school. She was a member of The Allentown Hospital Nurses Alumni Association, The Walnutport VFW  Fritzinger Post 7215 and was a Lifetime Member of The East Penn Township Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary. In her spare time, she served as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 82, East Penn Township, and volunteered as “The Nurse On Board” with The Penn Mahoning Ambulance.  She was always there to give nursing care and first aid to family & friends. She loved spending time with her family, outside grilling, gardening, and sitting on her front porch with the family cats & dogs while feeding the Hummingbirds. Surviving are 2 sons, Richard M. Kriner III & his wife Kathy, Todd G. Kriner & his wife Andrea of Lehighton, a grandson Todd A. Kriner & his companion Jessica Rider of Seaford, Delaware, a step-granddaughter, Camalot Oldt of Lehighton, 2 step-great granddaughters, Christine Oldt, and her fiancé Nicholas Roth, Emily  wife of Louis Squillace, a nephew, Brett Thomas, a niece Lee Ann Reid and a sister in law Grace “Sue” Thomas, cousins & many friends. A Celebration Of Life Service in her honor will be held on Monday, April 3rd at 11 a.m. at Ben Salem UCC, 1965 Church Hill Road, Lehighton, PA. with the Reverend Michael J. McGowan officiating. Call 9-11 a.m. in the church. Interment in parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Jane would like those unable to attend her services to give someone close to them a hug, tell them that you love them, buy them a special gift, or make a phone call to that special person that you've been putting off for such a long time. Memorial Contributions in her name may be made to the Ben Salem United Church of Christ, P.O.
