Mrs. Edna M. Mertz, 95, of Lehighton, passed away at the Village At Palmerton on Thursday, January 10, 2019. She was the wife of William Frey. They were married for 18 years this past December 2018.  She was also the widow of the late Stanley H. Mertz who passed away January 25, 1994. Born in Ashfield, Pa. on Friday, Christmas day, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Lewis & Hattie (Snyder) Steigerwalt. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a sewing machine operator for the former Peerless, Scotty’s & Drumheller’s Mills. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Mantzville, Pa. where she was a member of the church’s senior group. She enjoyed volunteering her time with the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Quilters group and enjoyed Bowling, Golfing at Blue Ridge Country Club, and playing Pinochle with her card group. Surviving is a son, Dennis S. Mertz & his wife Sasse of Palmerton, a sister, Barbara, wife of Oliver Bredbenner of Pennsville, 3 grandchildren, Susan, Cindy, Sander, 4 great-grandchildren, Nicole, Matt, Austin, Emma, nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Lillie Ann Mertz Sherron, 4 sisters, Mary Rudelitsch, Thelma Snyder, Ruth Kemmerer, Esther Youse, 2 brothers, Oliver & Stanley Steigerwalt, and a great-granddaughter, Amber. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 15th at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 184 St. Peter’s Road, Tamaqua, Pa. with the Reverend Kenneth T. Melber Jr. officiating. Call 10-11 a.m. in the church. Interment in the parish cemetery. Memorial Contributions in her honor may be made to the church at 18252. Online condolences can be offered at www.ovsakfh.com
