Mrs. Betty Jean Christman Griffith, 89, formerly of Lehighton, Pa. passed away peacefully at Fellowship Manor, Whitehall on Wed. March 6th 2019. Betty was a warm and compassionate person who gave and cared for many especially her late husband  George S. Griffith who died on June 22, 2004. Her passions were family first, cooking and gardening. Born in Kresgeville Pa. on Monday, Aug. 12th , 1929, she was a daughter of the late Harold & Arlene (Minnich) Christman Sr.. Betty was a homemaker/housewife, and assisted her husband with the family business: The Lehighton Hardware Store. She was a member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Trachsville, The Lehighton Lady Elks, and volunteered her time with the Carbon County 4-H sewing club, the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, & served as a Lehighton Girl Scout assistant leader. Surviving are 2 daughters, Dr. Jane Griffith wife of Russell Etherington, of Villanova Pa., Georgene D., wife of Robert Brobst of Schnecksville Pa., a son Scott D. Griffith & his wife Liz, of Algonquin, Illinois, a sister, Gloria, wife of Gerald Walk of Kunkletown, a brother, Dwight Christman, & his wife Beverely of Kresgeville, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Carol Kinzel, & 3 brothers, Ronald Christman, Roger Christman, & Harold Christman Jr.. Friends & family are invited to gather, remember, and celebrate Betty’s life on Sunday, March 10th at 12:00 noon at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 Church Road, Palmerton, Pa. with the Reverend Brian R. Holben officiating. Call 12 noon to 12:30 in the church. Interment in the parish cemetery. Memorial Contributions in her name may be made to the church at 18071.
