Mr. Richard O'Donnell Obituary

Mr. Richard T. “Reds” O’Donnell, 75, of Union Hill, passed away Monday, October 22nd at Maple Shade Meadows, Nesquehoning, Pa. He was the husband of the late Karen June (Henninger) O’Donnell who passed away, Nov. 15, 2012. Born in Coaldale, Pa. Aug. 15, 1943, he was a son of the late James Francis & Margaret L. (Fronheiser) O’Donnell. He served our country with the US Army during the Viet Nam War attaining the rank of SP5 (T). Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 11 years at The Lehighton Area School District as an Attendance Officer and Custodial Worker. He previously worked for The Bethlehem Steel Corporation with 31 years of service. He was of the Catholic Faith. “Reds” was an avid football enthusiast and followed The “Fighting Irish” Notre Dame Football schedule. His predominant voice was heard as the announcer for The Lehighton Area High School Varsity Football games for over 14 years and volunteered his time with the Franklin Township Athletic Association. He held Life memberships with Lehigh Fire Company#1, The Fairview Hose, Jim Thorpe, & The Weatherly Fire Company and held a membership at The Lehighton American Legion Post 314 where he served as Chaplain for the Viet Nam Last Man’s Club. An avid outdoorsman/hunter, he held memberships at The Mauch Chunk Rod & Gun Club, & The Beaver Run Rod & Gun Club. When parting ways with anyone, he could always be heard wishing everyone “Good Luck” “Good Health” & “God Bless You & Yours”. Surviving is a daughter, Kelly Zeruth of Kresgeville,  a step-daughter, Lisa, wife of Stephen B. Everett of Franklin Township, a son, Kevin O’Donnell & his wife Alison of Parryville, a sister, Margaret Skymba of Tamaqua, 3 grandchildren, Brittany Moyer, Kassidy Shupp, Brady O’Donnell, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Patrick O’Donnell, twins Shawn & Colleen O’Donnell, 3 sisters, Rita O’Donnell, Mary Ketz, Doris Smicker, &  4 brothers, Eugene, Edward, Joseph, & JamesO’Donnell. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Oct.26th at 11 a.m. at The Ovsak FH, 190 S. 4th St. Lehighton with the Reverend Dale Oplinger officiating. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday Oct. 25th & 10-11 a.m. Friday Oct. 26th at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors under the direction of The Lehighton Area UVO in Franklin Heights, Memorial Park, E. Weissport, Pa.
