Mr. Kermit Sinyard Miller

July 25, 1925 ~ March 17, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old


Mr. Kermit S. Miller, 91, of 300 S. 9th St., Lehighton passed away Friday, March 17th at his residence. He was the husband of Lucy A. (DeSousa) Miller. They were married for 66 years last August 26th 2016. Born on Union Hill, Pa. he was a son of the late Warren & Jenny (Sinyard) Miller Sr. He served our country with the United States Navy during WWII attaining the rank of Radarman 3rd class. He was the recipient of the Pacific Theater Ribbon with 8 stars & the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 stars after the Philippine Liberation and the engagement of the enemy at Iwo Jima & Okinawa while serving aboard the USS McNair. Prior to his retirement he was employed with the Lehigh Valley Railroad/Conrail as a car inspector at the Packerton Shops. He also assisted his brother Richard Miller at the family funeral business for many years on Union Hill & also worked  at Zimmerman’s Dairy & drove school bus for The Lehighton Area School District. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Lehighton where he served as an usher at the 10 a.m. Mass for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed the company of his many friends at the 443 diner coffee group, playing cards with his grandson Aaron on a weekly basis, & mowing grass for friends & relatives.  He was the last surviving member of his brothers & sisters. Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Terry M. Miller & his wife Robin of Slatington, 4 grandchildren, Aaron, Greg, Lindsay, Erin, 3 great grandchildren, Samantha, Nathaniel, Benjamin , nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Marykay Miller, 3 sisters, Dorothy, Myrtle, Thelma, & 5 brothers, Richard, Donald, Elwood, Herman & Warren Jr. A Public Mass of Christian Burial for family & friends will be held on Tuesday, March 21st at 9:30 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul RC Church, 246 North 3rd St., Lehighton with the Reverend Michael E. Ahrensfield officiating. No calling hours. Interment in SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery with full military honors under the direction of the Lehighton Area UVO.
