Mr. Irving Mesher

March 29, 1925 ~ June 26, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old


Mr. Irving Mesher,  92, of Palmerton, Pa. passed away Monday, June 26th at St. Luke’s Hospice House, Bethlehem Pa. He was the husband of the late Shirley Sarner Mesher. Born in Manhattan, New York, he was a son of the late Isidore & Rose (Kirsch) Mesher.  He was employed as a resort own and served as a Battalion Chief for the New York City Fire Department. Irving served our country with the US Navy during WWII as a sonar operator aboard the destroyer escort USS Silverstein. He participated in the engagement of the enemy in the Pacific/Asiatic Theater of operations at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was a member of Temple Israel Synagogue in Lehighton and was a member of The Manhattan Grand Lodge Masonic Hall, NY, NY. An accomplished trumpet player/musician, he assisted entertainers such as  Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Tito Puente, Stan Getz and several Latin bands during the 1940’s & 1950’s, and played for the  Richard M. Nixon Presidential Inaugural Ball. He was an avid animal lover. Surviving are 2 sons, Buddy Mesher of Kissimmee Florida, Michael Mesher of New Mexico, 2 grandchildren, Halsie Shoemaker, Ferris Mesher, nieces, & nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Musicant, & 3 brothers, Sydney, Louie, Harry Mesher. Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, June 29th at 2 p.m. in Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, New Jersey 07652.
