Mr. Gordon L. Merluzzi, 93, of Lehighton, passed away Wednesday, April 4th at The Mahoning Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Betty V. (Dillinger) Merluzzi who preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 1993. Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Peter & Helen Schwartz Merluzzi. He served our country with the US Army Air Corps during World War II attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the Middle Eastern Service Medal with 7 bronze service stars after engaging the enemy during the Rome-Arno, Normandy, Northern France, Southern France, Rhineland, & Central Europe campaigns. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a dress manufacturer for MaryAnn Manufacturing, Jim Thorpe, and also worked in the same capacity for the Helmer & Wilmer Fashions Bowmanstown Division. Gordon was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton and held a Life membership with The Lehighton American Legion Post 314. He served on the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital board for over 26 years and was a member of the BPOE Lodge, Lehighton, and was a past president of the Mahoning Township Lions Club. Surviving are 3 sons, Rex D. Merluzzi of Lehighton, Jack N. Merluzzi of Tokyo, Japan, Merritt D. Merluzzi of the Midwest United States, several grandchildren, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a son Gordon L. Merluzzi II, a sister, Helen Deis, & 4 brothers, Frederick, Carl, Franklin & Richard Merluzzi. Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
