Mr. Dale T. Poe, 88, of Lehighton, passed into eternal rest on Saturday, April 20th at The Summit Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton, Pa. He was the husband of Mary Ellen (Henning) Poe. Born in Allentown, Pa. on March 14, 1931, he was a son of the late Edgar & Leona (Shankweiler) Poe. Dale was a graduate of The Lehighton Area High School, Class of 1949. He served our country with the US Army during the Korean War attaining the rank of Spec-3 (T). He received his Bachelor’s degree from Drexel University in 1954 where he earned the distinction of being a Little All American Lacrosse Player. He later earned his Master’s degree from Lehigh University and taught at Whitehall High School from 1963-1969 where he coached basketball & football. He later taught at Lehighton High School from 1969 to 1993 where he likewise coached basketball & football and served as the athletic director from 1981-1993. Dale volunteered his time with his wife with The Carbon County Chapter of The American Red Cross, The Carbon County Planning Commission, & The Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm. He was a former secretary of The Mahoning Valley Country Club, and held memberships with the Lehighton Elks, The Lehighton American Legion Post 314 and Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 brothers, Edgar Poe of Jim Thorpe, & Alan Poe of Port Jervis, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Jean & Margalo. Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
