Betty Jane (Green) Jones

Betty Jane Jones of Lehighton, age 90, passed away October 4th, 2018. She is survived by her children, Mary Allen Callen (William) of Jim Thorpe, Edna Treible (Stanley) of Walnutport, and Larry Jones (Susan) of Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late John H. Jones. She is the grandmother of Rubin Zellner, Lt. Col. Dorothy Watkins , Rebecca Callen, Paul Treible, Marlo & Michael Jones. She was a great-grandmother to 6, and a great-great-grandmother to 4. Betty was born on July 8th, 1928 and raised in Lehighton, where she lived all her life. Born to the late Adam & Lulu (McFarland) Green, she was the 6th of 9 children. Currently surviving is her sister, Edna, wife of Bernard Dunlap of Lehighton. She was predeceased by sisters, Edith Bittner, Ida & Violet Steigerwalt, Dorothy Zuber, 3 brothers, Paul, Thomas & Adam Green Jr. and a grandson, Jason Treible.

Her home was a welcoming place for all. Her spirit was filled with acceptance, generosity, and unconditional love. For years she had taken care of all the grandchildren, and children in her neighborhood. She was a friend and adopted family member to the Gaston family, whom she helped on the farm, cared for their children, and baked goodies for Canning, baking pies and crafting fruit jellies.These were a few of her many Pennsylvania Dutch Kitchen skills. She loved having company and visitors from her neighborhood. She would feed each mouth that came through her door. Everyone was considered her family & treated equally. Even caretakers and doctors were sent home with cookies and baked goods. In her final years she was cared for by her children and her beloved granddaughter Dorothy. Her legacy of love remains in each of our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in her honor.
