James DeVore Obituary

James Preston DeVore, age 47, passed away on March 24, 2024 due to complications of liver cancer and kidney failure. He died surrounded by family. He leaves behind his wife, Melanie, and his children James, Thomas, Henry, Edward, Charlie, and Timothy. He is also survived by his parents, Doug and Linda, and siblings Doug (Janna), Michael (Rachel), Christina (Cliff) and John. James is preceded in death by all 4 of his grandparents and a maternal aunt. James was born and raised in Salt Lake CIty, Utah and attended Granite School District schools ultimately graduating from Kearns High School. While attending high school, he developed a passion for speech and debate and debated at the College of Eastern Utah (now known as USU Eastern). He transferred up to the University of Wyoming where he completed a degree in political science. James completed his education at the University of Denver College of Law earning a Masters of Science and Legal Administration. He worked for 10 years in the courts of both the state of Colorado and the state of Pennsylvania before finding his ultimate passion working for the United States Postal Service in the Lehigh Valley Processing and Distribution Center. At the Postal Service he was a member of the National Postal Mail Handlers Union (NPMU) where he served as a steward and ultimately chief steward for his shift. He had a passion for working at the postal service because it was working for the United States Government. James was also a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings including first counselor in a prison branch, Elders Quorum President, Sunday School President and clerk. James had a passion for always trying to put people in a good mood and was especially known by family and friends for always being good for a joke. James loved his family and wanted them to know and understand the importance of the gospel of Jesus Christ in his life and hopefully in their lives as well. Funeral services will be held at the Lehighton Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (1140 Pohopoco, Lehighton) on Saturday, March 30th. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 with the service following directly afterwards. Interment will be following the services at the Lehighton Cemetery. Funeral services will be broadcast on Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/8768586238?pwd=aUIHMUFuc2x1bXVDZXZUSURQSkdHQT09#success.
