Mrs. Joan A. (Mertz) Nothstein

Mrs. Joan A. Nothstein, 77, of Lehighton, passed into eternal rest on Saturday, November 26th at The Hometown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Richard G. Nothstein who passed away March 30, 1993. Born in Lehighton, she was the daughter of the late Henry & Ruth Seila Mertz. She was a graduate of The Lehighton Area High School, Class of 1956. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a payroll clerk/book keeper for Hahn & Sons Dodge, Snyder Tire Co. both of Lehighton and also for Randy Barson at J D Byryder, Allentown, Pa. Joan was an active member of St. John Episcopal Church Palmerton, where she served on the altar guild & the church vestry where she held the position of senior warden, usher, & greeter. She is survived by 2 daughters, Pamela, wife of Herman Baier of Las Vegas, Nevada, Deidre Nothstein of Palmerton, a step-daughter, Nadine, wife of Thomas Schmidt of Palmerton, 3 sons, Douglas, Don, & Dennis Nothstein of Lehighton, 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Thomas Schmidt Jr. Funeral Services will be held on Wed. Nov. 30th at 11 a.m. at St. John Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave. Palmerton with The Rev. Canon Lexa H. Shallcross officiating. Call Tues. Nov. 29th from 6-8 p.m. at The Ovsak FH, 190 S. 4th St., Lehighton and Wed. Nov. 30th from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Interment in Gnaden Huetten Cemetery, 4th & Union St., Lehighton. Memorial Contributions in her honor may be made to an animal shelter/animal group of one’s choice.
