Mrs. Elizabeth Barnette Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth M. (DeFrehn) Barnette, 78, of Pinehurst NC, formerly of Lehighton, passed away Jan. 28th at her residence. She was the wife of Swifton Eugene Barnette. They were married for 52 years last Sept. 18, 2017. Born in Lehighton, she was a daughter of the late Goodwin & Anna Ovsak DeFrehn. A 1960 graduate of The Reading Hospital School of Nursing, she practiced in the nursing profession for 50 years. Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, Jean Marie, wife of Thomas Bass, a son Steven Barnette & his wife Karen, 5 grandchildren, Jonathan, Lauren, Katelyn, Danielle, Jennifer, 4 sisters, Kay, wife of Dr. John DeMatte, Patricia, wife of Paul Gourley, Ann, wife of Jim Shober, Anita, wife of Joseph Melvin, nieces & nephews. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in her honor will be held on Sat. Feb. 24th at 11 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul RC Church, 242 N. 3rd St., Lehighton with the Rev. James J. Ward officiating. Interment following the Mass in the parish cemetery, N. 4th St., Lehighton. Memorial Contributions in her honor may be made to The St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at www.StJude.org.
