Mr. Robert Whiteman Obituary

Mr. Robert A. “Brooks” Whiteman, 97, of Jamestown, Pa. passed into eternal rest on Wednesday February 14th at The Summit Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton. He was the husband of the late Melva L. (Wertman) Whiteman who passed away Aug. 16th, 2008. Born in Weissport, Pa., he was the son of the late Robert A. Sr. & Emma (Donner) Whiteman. He served our country with the US Army during WWII in the Philippine Islands  with the 19th CA BN attaining the rank of Corporal. He previously was employed in the construction field as a laborer and most recently was employed at The Kovatch Corporation in Nesquehoning, Pa. He was of the Reformed Lutheran Faith. He held a membership at The Lehighton American Legion Post 314. In the year 2000, he was inducted into the Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame for his outstanding athletic endeavors.  A baseball/football enthusiast, he loved watching the Philadelphia Phillies and also kept watch on the Philadelphia Eagles. A family oriented person, he enjoyed his time with his grandchildren, & great-grandchildren. Surviving is a daughter, Lorraine, wife of Nicholas Muniz of Palmerton, a son Randy Whiteman Sr. & his wife Alison of Lehighton, a daughter in law, Cindy Whiteman of Tennessee, 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a son Robert Whiteman, a grandson, Randy Whiteman Jr., & 2 sisters, Mary Whitehead Rohlfing, & Gladys Nothstein. A Graveside Celebration Of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 17th at 1:30 p.m. in The Lehighton Cemetery, 4th & Alum St., Lehighton with the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Bannerman officiating followed by Military Honors under the direction of The Lehighton Area UVO.
