Mr. Harry James Shiffert, 75, formerly of Lehighton & Jim Thorpe, Pa. passed away Tues. Feb. 28th  at The Gnaden Huetten Hospital, Lehighton, Pa. He was a current resident at The Summit Nursing & Rehab. Ctr., Lehighton since April of 2008. He was the former companion of Doris Evert. Born in Jamestown, Pa., he was a son of the late John H. & Minnie Mae Jennie (Haupt) Shiffert Sr. He served our country with the US Army during the Viet Nam War attaining the rank of Pvt. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a bricklayer/laborer for various construction companies in the local area. He attended church services at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton. He loved his nieces & nephews and was known as the “family storyteller”. While a resident at the Summit, he enjoyed cookies, puzzles, board games, TV game shows and was a champion Bingo player. Surviving is a brother Gerald “ Davey” Shiffert of Coaldale, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Rose Marie Shiffert, Geraldine Haydt, & a brother, John H. Shiffert Jr. A Celebration Of Life Service in his honor will be held on Monday, March 6th at 11 a.m. at The Ovsak FH, 190 S. 4th St., Lehighton with SALM Emma Weaver officiating. Call 10-11 a.m. Interment in Gnaden Huetten Cemetery, Memorial Contributions in his honor may be made to The American Cancer Society, 101 W. Frack St. Frackville, Pa. 17931.
