Mr. Elwood T. "Woody" Hunsicker

August 26, 1936 ~ April 19, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old


Mr. Elwood T. “Woody” Hunsicker, 80, of Lehighton, passed away Wednesday evening, April 19th at The Summit Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton, Pa. He was the husband of the late Betty L. Boyer Hunsicker who passed away March 30, 2016. They were married on May 12th, 1962. Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Lawrence W. & Hannah E. (Goodman) Hunsicker Sr. He was a graduate of Lehighton Area High School, Class of 1955. He served our country with the US Army during the Viet Nam War attaining the rank of PFC (T). Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a laborer for The New Jersey Zinc Company, Palmerton, Pa. He was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Lehighton and held a Life Membership at The Lehigh Fire Co. #1 where he enjoyed parading with the members. “Woody” was known as the “Clipman”  with the “Chain Gang”   at the Lehighton High School Football games for many years. Among his special interests were TV, movies, cooking, traveling, & spending time with his family and his twin granddaughters. Surviving is a son, Kevin T. Hunsicker & his wife Cindy of East  Penn Township, 2 brothers, Merle “Merk” Hunsicker & his wife LaVerne of Lehighton, Glenn “Shag” Hunsicker & his wife Judy, of Martinsburg, Virginia, a brother-in-law, James Boyer & his wife Jennifer of Williamsburg, Virginia,  2 sisters-in-laws, Bernice & Mary Hunsicker of Lehighton, 2 twin granddaughters, Kelsey & Katie Hunsicker, nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Patricia “Pat” Steigerwalt, Evelyn “Eve” Bryfogle & 2 brothers, Lawrence “Barney” & Clair “Joe” Hunsicker.   Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 24th at 11 a.m. at The Ovsak FH, 190 S. 4th St., Lehighton, Pa. with the Reverend Michael J. McGowan officiating. Call 9:30-11 a.m. Interment in The Gnaden Huetten Cemetery, 4th & Union St., Lehighton with Full Military Honors under the direction of the Lehighton Area UVO.
