Mr. Carl C. Christman

Mr. Carl C. Christman, 96, formerly of Jamestown Rd., Mahoning Township passed away, Sunday, October 1st in Fort Smith, Arkansas where he was a resident for the past several years. He was the husband of the late Gloria A. (Rabenold) Christman who passed away January 14th, 2006. Born in Franklin Township, Pa., he was a son of the late Spener & Emma I. (Berger) Christman. He served our country during WW II with the Army Air Corps in the European Theater of Operations with the 28th Squadron, 344th Bomb Group, 9th Air Force, receiving 3 bronze battle stars while attaining the rank of Corporal. He was later recalled during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton. Carl held a Lifetime Membership at The Lehighton American Legion Post 314 and its WW II Last Man’s Club. He volunteered his time with The  Shoemaker/Haydt American Legion Post 314 Honor Guard, The Lehighton Area United Veterans Organization and held memberships with the Lehighton VFW Post 256 and The Lehighton AMVETS Elwood Miller Post 106. He was a self employed building contractor & was the founder of C & G Lumber & Building Supplies. He served as the Chairman of the Carbon County Convalescent Home Building Authority & in 1981 helped establish & charter the Carbon Builders Association where he was granted a Lifetime Honorary Membership. He served as Treasurer of The United Brotherhood of Carpenter’s & Joiner’s of America, Local 2029 until its merging with Local 600. He was a former member of The Mahoning Township Board of Supervisors and served for 13 years on the Carbon County Planning Commission, & The Mahoning Township Agricultural  Stabilization Committee. He held a Life membership with Orioles Nest #183 & The National Rifle Association. Surviving is a daughter, Dell D., wife of Stephen Manus of Fort Smith , Arkansas, a son, Jay W. Christman & his wife Sally, of Vine Grove, Kentucky., a sister, Marcella Hontz, of Scottsdale, Arizona, 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Christman. Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 6th at 11 a.m. in The Lehighton Cemetery, 4th & Alum St., Lehighton with the Reverend John P. Hassler officiating with Full Military Honors under the direction of The Lehighton UVO.
